As many of you may know, Starbucks announced a few weeks ago that, this spring, they will be changing their logo to an updated symbol which does not contain the company name, “Starbucks Coffee”. Watch our latest vlog. Comment. Change the world…

I’m not a Starbucks girl at all, by any means… but when I do get a cup of something there, I like going to the original one down at Pike Place in Seattle. Then I get the original logo. I like the brown.

Also, I appreciate the Eugene reference.

I love the line “stop the world from changing”. Yeah, some of you on here think this matter is trivial… but if it’s not one thing, it’s another.

TOTALLY with you guys! Let’s fight!

Starbucks, keep your name. Don’t look cheap. Everyone else is doing it and it is a bad trend. Amen.

  4. Diane says:

If you don’t want the change, consider letting Starbucks know on their webpage…
Also consider reading Onward by the CEO and founder of the company….it’s an awesome book and shows the inside Starbucks story. Starbucks in unique as far as businesses go.

Wow, this is bull, i like the mermaid on the coffee cup, starbucks is very good, i didnt think they would change. Thats the way life goes, we have something we love, then “the man” comes and crushes it.

  6. Hannah says:

The mermaid in the logo is known as a Siren. In Greek mythology sirens were bird-women or mermaids who seduced sailors out into the sea, forcing them to crash their ships on their islands. The “u-shaped wreath” you speak of is actually her tail – the Siren in the Starbucks logo is twin-tailed, and she’s holding them apart.
Additionally, the original logo that was used long before the green ring showed up in the 90′s depicted a full-view of this particular Siren, topless (with nipples showing), spreading her twin-tails. What if they’d kept this logo? Would you still drink their coffee? To me, change is sometimes good.

And for those who said they like to know it’s Starbucks, I think one of the hidden motives behind the change lie in the opposite camp. As someone who has worked in many cafes, including Starbucks, I can honestly say for every person with Starbucks pride, there are at least five with Starbucks shame. A lot of people don’t want to be a “billboard,” but still want to enjoy the product. I can understand that – and welcome the change of logo.

Starbucks, smarbucks. Their coffees aren’t that great. Well, I don’t like coffee so I might have a bias opinion on that. Anyhow; they have changed their logo multiple times and this is just one of many more to come more likely, why fight it? Change can be a good thing. On the thing of hating Starbucks though, they have done something to piss me off. I do not live in Portland, Oregon or even in the state of Oregon, do NOT sell Portland mugs in my city! However they did recall all the mugs from the Starbucks around there after the mayor took a baseball bat to the mugs. The link to that for proof. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162550,00.html

The change isn’t that bad. I hope no one turns me into an ostrich for saying that.
It’ll take some getting used to, but Starbucks doesn’t represent only coffee. (I mean, they do for you guys, but not as a whole. :P) They took that off partially on account of the fact that they plan to push other aspects of the business as well. Plus, they’ll probably save millions of dollars a year on green ink.
Sure, right now this new naked symbol doesn’t represent the Starbucks we all know and love, but Starbucks has always been first and foremost about quality, and as long as their commitment to such remains the same, it won’t take long at all for this new seal to become easily associated with the company. It’s like when my band was deciding on a name. We came up with a bunch of different ideas, and no one could agree… in the end, I withdrew my vote, and encouraged the others to give in a little, because I realized that the name wasn’t important. What was important was what we stood for. As long as we focused on what we wanted to mean to other people, we eventually realized that those people would soon associate that meaning with whatever name we had. And they do.
In summary, I’d say that a couple of years from now, people will have the same sense of pride in the new logo that they do right now in the old one, because at the end of the day, It’s all about good coffee and good experiences, and that’s not changing any time soon.
Also, for anyone that didn’t get the first line, I was making a pun around the term “ostracism”.

    • Lynnette says:

Technically, yeah we know. We will all get used to the new logo, and nobody likes change – very much. What I don’t get is this – what other things does Starbucks want to do that isn’t associated with coffee? Surely they will still be known for the coffee above all, right? I guess I don’t understand the need to change a logo that’s already perfect. :) It’s just an opportunity to disappoint your loyal customers rather than remain faithful.

When Starbucks changed their logo in the past, they weren’t nearly as well known as they are today. Personally, I think it was a risky move – BUT saying that, I don’t think it’ll keep people away. It just sort of stirred up trouble if you ask me. I read their gazillion comments in response to the new logo on their website (before they removed many of them), and the truth is, most people are a little disappointed. The reason the logo is such a big deal to Starbucks drinkers is because they carry it on their cup every time they buy a coffee. It would be just as tragic is Nike changed their logo since people wear it.

I think it’s a little different than naming a band for the first time – you were creating your identity at that point. Starbucks has created an identity, and through the years that their company flourished, that logo has become a huge part of their identity as people sat in offices, cars and classrooms with their Starbucks cups. That logo is a huge part of Starbucks.

So, while it’s really not THAT big of a deal, and we aren’t grieving over here or anything – that’s their (and my) opinion, and we’re sticking to it!

      • Lynnette says:

“what other things does Starbucks want to do that isn’t associated with coffee?” was supposed to be – what other things does Starbucks want to do that aren’t associated with coffee? Was going too fast.

    • Nate says:

“where my elderberry wand? i need to turn this person into and ostrich”
      Just kidding :D
but theye made their logo bigger and it cost more for black ink than it does for green ink…
Just kidding about the first part…we all have our different opinions
      HAHA…

    • Abigail says:

Of course, we will all get used to the change…I don’t think I would have had a problem with the change from the beginning if they had included the title. Really, people don’t know Starbucks as “Starbucks Coffee” they know it as…Starbucks. If they don’t want to be know for just coffee (and yes, I have known it was one of their goals to expand their horizons a bit), then perhaps they should have just removed “Coffee”.

If someone as notable as Starbucks wants to change something as signature as their logo, then it should change for the better. You’re right…I’m sure the company will save money on ink in only using one color in the logo…however, the fact that that’s the first thing I thought of isn’t a good sign. A new logo, for a company with the legacy of quality that Starbucks has, shouldn’t look cheap.

So, no, we’re not grieving. No, we won’t stop going to Starbucks. No, the new logo won’t destroy the oasis of an illusion that Starbucks has created over the years…but attempting to create a new meaning for something that’s already left an imprint on no small number of lives just seems counterproductive to me.

And yes, we’re being dramatic; but sometimes, having opinions about frivolous things makes life more interesting. :)

      • Brianna says:

Yeah, the new logo is sad…it looks so incomplete without the writing. It’s like changing your whole identity…you’re whole being.

Okay, yeah, being way dramatic here.

Is it wrong that I freaked out the other day when someone gave me a Starbucks gift card and it had the old logo on it? That really made my day (like a Starbucks gift card hadn’t already made my day….) Whatever. :]

Old logo or new, it’s still Starbucks and there is nothing like it.

  9. Jenilee says:

I did NOT know they were changing the logo! What??? Your mom needs to vlog about her opinion! Oh, I will miss that green starbucks ring!

  10. I loved the quote said by Jared, Life is abstract enough let’s not anymore to it Starbucks.
I am not quiet sure what they wish to do with such a logo, but they “believe” they have created an “image” for themselves which is depicted by the girl-mermaid-horseshoe holding girl thing, and that is absurd, I have not been to Starbucks much because we don’t have it here, but I have heard and been a couple of time..as a foreigner for me “Starbucks Coffee” around the green circle is what I looked for, the girl inside the green circle never really gave me any indication about it being STARBUCKS COFFEE. So I believe, for foreigners like me,it’s easier for us to recognize an outlet by what they truly our famous for, like Mc. Donalds is famous for its M, the same way Strabucks is by its big and bold letters STARBUCKS COFFEE.

WHAT A DISGUSTING AND BLAND LOGO (the green really added allot) IT SUCKS LIKE A TICK
AND YOU GUYS ROCK, LIKE AC/DC

  12. Christina says:

I hardly recognize the logo w/out the defining ring about it. :( I like to KNOW that I am drinking Starbucks coffee, thank you very much.

  13. Nancy says:

This is very intriguing indeed – but why wouldn’t they want their name on there – I am not a coffee drinker (I know right – GASP!) but I do enjoy starbucks and chai tea very much!! and I never even noticed the mermaid before – so when you showed the new logo – I was sadly clueless – I need the green circle with their name!! The musn’t remove it!!

  14. Kristin says:

Loved this video and totally agree! I need that green starbucks coffee ring on my coffee cup. It makes me happy :D

  15. Rachel M. says:

I am not a regular at Starbucks (not a coffee drinker), but I do not like this new change that is happening with their logo. Why do they have to remove the name “Starbucks Coffee”? If you were carrying one of their cups it would not have that name on the cup–it would just have the mermaid logo…..maybe call it Mermaid Coffee :)

Thanks for letting me know about the new happenings at Starbucks!
    Blessings,
    Rachel M.

  16. Jenn says:

What?!?!? I have not heard about this! I am with y’all. NO CHANGE NEEDED!!! Great video!

  17. Renee says:
